Gala Day Video

W.A.L.T. create a video using trailer on our i-pad. We had to ensure that we spelt all our words correctly the first time as it is tricky and time wasting to correct them. We had some of our photos deleted about our Gala day which was really disappointing but any way our creative learning was more about the process rather than the final product. The most important thing was that our class learnt so much about creating products to sell for profit at our Gala. We made $670 which was FANTASTIC for our camp to Cooper's Beach later in the month.

I have been learning to use Book Creator to write a story on my chromebook. I learnt how to add pictures and text and then how to change all of the colours and add shapes. I learnt how to record my voice and add it to the page on my story. I found it easy at some points and hard at some points.

We were asked to present assembly for the forth time this year. AJ and I (Nevaeh) volunteered to create the slide show and choose work we have completed lately to present to the audience at the end of the term. We learn so much speaking in front of an audience.

“Keep your Hands to Yourself!”

W.A.L.T. understand relationships and use puppets to show what our relationship was about. Imogen and I created a puppet show called “Keep Your Hands to Yourself”. It was about teaching people to not hurt each other and not touch other people at all when they don’t want to be touched by not invading their space. Also how to get along with each other.  If you are kind and caring you will have more friends. Next time I am going to try to make it in 30 secs. I found it frustrating trying to create a video in such a short time.

Celebrations Inquiry-St Patrick's Day -Ireland

Aurora-Jane and Zara inquired into an Irish celebration of St Patrick's Day. In many ways it is similar to celebrations in New Zealand with dance, song, drink and amazing food.

Collaboration with Te Awa

Room Te Awa (Year 1) and Te Moana (Year 4) work collaboratively throughout the day. Many of the older students support the teina to prepare for school, support them at play and lunch eating and play times. We also collaboratively read together as buddies, support each other during art, inquiry, wet lunch times, Physical Education as well as supporting the younger students to catch the bus each night.

Te Moana have special Reading Buddies in Te Awa. They establish their goals each session and read to each other in a teina/ tuakana relationship both learning from each other.

On Friday Te Moana and Te Maunga met  each  other on  the library steps. Then we buddied up. I was with Kaitlin. We all walked down to the beach. “Put your bag in a row on the grass with your buddy” Mrs Neumann said.

We all sat down on the grass by our bags. The lifeguards  were Liam, Sam and Toobs. They  asked us some questions. Then we split into five groups of ten. Each team got a red tube. Five people ran down to the other end of the beach.  The  leader from our group ran down to the other end where the kids in our group were waiting. They put the tube around us and clicked the heavy metal buckle back around us and ran back to our group. The water danced in the sun light. Real red ring.

After that we  had morning tea. We fniished our morning tea, it was time to get into the water. One of the games  was the boogie board race. Nikara and I were the leader in the boogie board race, we raced together and had a tie. After everybody had a turn we went in two’s. When we were in it was Jade and I against Nikara and Breeze. Then it was time to go.“ Bye ” said Room Te Moana.

AJ"s Statisical Investigation

Last week I learnt how to set up an investigation, by collecting data, sorting the information into categories and displaying  the data on a variety of graphs. I interpreted the information on the graphs.

So 1 and 2 are the most frequent number value.

The median is 1, 1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 2, 2, 3, 7.

As 2 is in the middle.

The range is the difference between the highest and the lowest value. 7 - 1 = 6.

The mean is 1+1+1+1+2+2+2+2+3+7 = 28.  28 ÷7= 4 .

The average is 4.

Aurora-Jane's Triathlon at Paihia School

Paihia School Triathlon

I felt so excited that I just about bowled my sister over when I ran out of my bedroom. last week on Friday, Paihia school had their own triathlon. It was just like the weetbix triathlon.  

Our first event was swimming. We walked down to the beach by the stone church. We went from year eight ,year, seven ,year five, year four. When we ran into the water we all went splash, splash, splash, splash ! . The sand was sizzling scorching sand. The water was as cold as a bucket of ice. . In my head I was saying come on AJ pick up your hoe of kaha.  

Our second event was the running. The girls in Te moana were the last ones to  run in the senior running race..  We ran up the path  from the beach by the stone church and back to school as fast as we could.

We put our sport shoes  and our helmets on as fast as we could then hopped on a bike that was just the right size for us. I went round the field and the pump track twice  before I  went through the middle of the goal posts and got a bar from Mrs Hadwin.

We watched the junior classes  do their races. Four people from our class did the junior triathlon too. I felt so tired but happy that I participated. It was awesome fun. It was the best thing that the school has done since I have been at school. It was the best day of my life at school.

Swim Safe Lesson 2

                                            Swim Safe Two.                         

Last week, when we were doing some swim safe with Tracy, she taught us things like,” Don't go in the water if you are worried and put your up and shout out very loudly and shout, Help, Help, Help!!”.

The water was as warm as a bathtub in the pool. We were practicing to rescue the person in the water with the flutter board. Some people felt they were sinking like a big boulder. We were floating as a balloon in the water.

When we got in the pool we got a floating device.  Tracy gave us a rope. We had to throw the rope to our buddy to rescue them.

Lastly, then we had to tow them in towards us. As we did it they slowly came to us. We all felt very happy and we were laughing so much we couldn't stop. But Beware that  you aren't grabbed and dragged under by the drowning person.
