Should we have Lollies at School--An Argument by Lilli-Rose

Lilli- Rose has written her argument about not having Lollies at school. She wrote her argument then edited and re-crafted it so that she met the standards of a higher rubric. It is great to see such a motivated student setting her goals so high and knowing how to self improve.

Shared Argument "Cooking at School"

We are learning to write arguments, so what better way to begin than to write about something we are passionate about-(On Fridays as part of our whare inquiry and maths measurement not to mention oral language, co-operative learning, managing ourselves, relating to others and participating and contributing it is the highlight of our week. Cooking at School-Shared I think that we should have cooking at school. As our school motto is together we learn and prepare for the future so we should be learning through cooking to help us be cooks when we are older in the future. Firstly we don’t get bored when we are cooking. It is fun and the food is so yummy. Secondly some students may be starving and hungry with rumbling tummies. We can’t study if we run out of energy and are hungry. Thirdly having a shared lunch is so much fun with another class. We like being kind to other people. To conclude we get two rewards one in our tummies and the other one in our heart because we feel special when we celebrate with friends.

Argument "We Should not Eat Lollies at School"

Mark was very sure that we should not eat Lollies at school. I wonder why?

Shared Argument Should we have Sweets at School?

We have begun to write arguments. Before we began writing we practiced having verbal arguments so that we knew that we could take a different point of view.

Treasure Island Maps by Lucas, Jamie and Jade

Today we read "Treasure Island." We enjoyed reading the story. We had fun speaking like pirates when we had to read what the pirates were saying in "pirate voices" using the punctuation marks. We had to make a pirate treasure map and mark the spot where the treasure was hidden with a X.

My First Written Argument "Should we Cook at School" Lucas

Cooking At School

I think we should do cooking at school because it’s fun and the dishes are fun to clean.
Firstly cooking is amazing. I don’t think our school should be the only school to have cooking, all schools should be doing this.
Secondly making food is fun. You chop, cut and wait and do lots and lots of things, you stir, you mash, you crack, you smell and you get to eat it all, at the end.
Finally making your own food is more fun than buying it, and you learn from it too.
To conclude we eat like a family and we are so happy, it’s cool!!!!

I had fun cutting feijoas up to put in the crumble pie that we cooked for lunch and to share with Room Three.

My First Argument "Should We Cook at School" by Carlitos

Cooking at School
CARLITOS 18.5.16
I think we should cook at school because cooking helps learning so when you grow up you get to cook your own dinner.
Firstly when you go to school and your class is cooking you can teach your friends after you teach your friends all your skills then they make food for themselves.
Secondly when your friends are old  they will be able to cook themselves.
But you could have an argument that we should not cook at school because it wasted time and your learning, so you wouldn’t do any maths or reading.

To conclude I think we should have cooking at school now so we agreed that we should have cooking because we can read the labels on the ingredients and the recipe and measure the cooking things for maths.
Vinnie and I are cutting up the apples and feijoas for our crumble pie.
I used the flour sifter to sift the flour for the pizza base.

The crumble is ready to put on the fruit.
We shared our lunch with Room Three children.

Fishing Trip ---Nevaeh

Fishing Trip   (Nevaeh)
I couldn’t wait to go on my uncle's speed boat. Once we got on the boat I said, ‘‘Stop!’’ We forgotten our tools we need a ruler, wet towel, water gun ,bait and of course a fishing rod. Dad said, “Thank you for reminding me.” After we got the gear we headed off to the beautiful island ‘‘I said, “Lucky Uncle has spare life jackets.”
As we hopped out I said to Dad, “Can we sit on that amazing comfortable grassy area? Dad said, “O.K. sure!” Once we sat down I had a lovely picnic with my dad and uncle. After we had the picnic we had a awesome swim ‘‘Dad said, “come on let’s go fishing!” “Yes! O.K.” When we got back on to the boat we finally went fishing. Dad helped me put the bait on the hook and throw the thin clean white string out. “Uncle look! I  caught an enormous fish.” Dad said, “Come on, let’s go home so we all went back to shore.

Fishing Tale ---Indie

Fishing Tale
One day Dad and I woke up very early in the morning I said, ‘‘O.K.,  Don’t forget salted ice, wet towel, ruler, life jackets and of course our fishing rods.’’ “O.K. you remind me, because I always forget. I’ll tie the boat up to the trailer,’’ replied Dad. “O.K.!” I said.
When we were ready and packed we climbed into our car and rushed off out to the deck. It was amazing the water, and shone like a shooting star. I was amazed, so was Dad, it was the most sparkly water I had ever seen.
As soon as we were at the right place I throw my line into the water. After a little while I felt a nibble on my rod. I quickly reeled the humongous fish in.

Fishing Adventure--Franky

We woke up fast I grabbed my rod and tackle box then drove to Opua wharf. We brought chilly bin, hooks, bait, scissors, plastic cups, and plastic  bottle. Archie, Mum,  Dad,and I. We went to have fun. We drove around lunch time. We got a hot pie from the bakery Mum had a coffee.
Then a tug was on the line.We caught a pretty fish it was too small. I used a towel and dropped it back in after I reeled it in with Mum. I got to put it back. Soon we packed up then drove home smoothly on the road. Maybe next time we will catch more!

Fishing Trip

In the morning my Dad and I went  fishing and   we rowed to our favourite fishing spot. We brought a fishing rod and a ruler.
We had to cast the line and we  caught a snapper. We caught  a  bigger snapper we had to put it back in because it’s a female. Then we rowed  to our other favourite fishing spot. Then we rowed to the rocks. Then we had a cast  and the line flew like a  eagle. A fish took a big bit and I wound in the humongous fish. Then a bigger  fish and it   almost   tipped over the boat and  it  felt like a shag  pulled  the line.

Fishing --Gail

Fishing-Gail. 12.5.16.
When the moon was as bright as a glow worm. One time when my sisters, brothers and Aunty and I went fishing in Opua one Saturday evening. We packed biscuits sandwiches and chips. We went so we could have fish for dinner.
But suddenly there was a bite, it pulled  so hard it took our line. So we went home to get another line. We were lucky to catch a fish straight away. We also measured it. It was 5 kgs.  We gently put it into  the salty bucket and scaled it with a spoon.

Fishing Trip---Mere

   Fishing Trip --Mere
Yesterday after school my family and I we went to the lake to go fishing. We got some stuff ready. I got the First Aid Kit, some flares, petrol, salt, ice, knife, bait and fishing rod.
I put my fishing rod in the water and waited for the fish to come and bite the bait  on the hook.  Then I lifted up and wrapped the fish with a wet towel.  I put the ruler under the fish. But the fish was too big because it was a mummy fish so daddy put the fish back in the water slowly. Dad caught another fish, he  lifted it up and the fish was right size so we put the fish in the bucket with the ice.
Later we put the the fish in the boat and we went home. The next day we ate the fish for dinner and it was yummy. I asked my parents if I could go in my room to eat. After dinner I had a shower and went to bed and the next  day we went fishing again.

Fishing Behind Mermaid Island--Josh

Fishing  Behind Mermaid Island
A long long time ago early on a freezing morning. Dad had to wake me up. “Josh wake up!” said Dad in a gentle voice. I woke up straight away. I quickly got dressed. It was freezing.Dad got the lifejackets and then we drove to Waitangi. My Dad had to reverse to get the boat into the water down the steep ramp.
Dad started the engine and we sped underneath the bridge before coming to a halt behind Mermaid Island. Dad threw out our line that was baited with special bait. I felt my line bending with the weight of the fish. I reeled it in. Zoe quickly ran to get the net. Zoe pulled it out we didn’t need to weigh it as it was a reasonable size. I said, “Wow!” I’ve caught the biggest kahawai I’ve ever caught. Zoe caught a couple of snappers but once was too small to keep.
Dad pulled up the anchor, we sped back home to the ramp, put the boat on the trailer and returned home. At dinner I was lucky enough to eat my kahawai. It was such a cool day I did not even notice the weather was so freezing. Perhaps cold freezing days are the best days to go fishing.

Fishing Trip -Stormy-Lee

Fishing Trip
One time we went fishing and the boat nearly flipped. Ani, Kanye and I  were on top of the boat.and On the front of the boat eating sandwiches. Then when we went back to our van I got to help my uncle  drive. When we were driving there Kanye was driving.
Then we went home and had some dinner then we went to bed. And the next day we went to play on the sand. Well Uncle was fishing on the sand and that day was boring  because we only caught three. My brother and I were making a sand castle. And we had a swim with my brother and Ani we were diving in the water and we went out far in the water because the tide was in. It was fun because Anihera was letting me go on her back then we went home to have lunch and to have a shower and after that we played a game inside and the we ate the fishes for dinner.

And that was the end of the day.  I packed my bag and went to school. It was fun at school. When it was the end of the day at school I got everything out of my bag and got in the van and went to my dad's and my nan’s  house. And we went to get some bait and a water gun we got some kinas by the rocks. When we were picking kina’s I thought about  when we could do it again. And we went fishing the next day it was fun.We gave the fish to my nan and aunty that was the end of our trip.

Our Fishing Adventure Day -Kingston

Our Fishing Adventure Day 5.5.16. Kingston.

On Saturday Dad took Liam and I to the beach to catch a large fish. Next dad threw his fishing line in the ocean, soon he caught a fish from the ocean.
The fish looked like a snapper and we felt it and it smelt like ocean seaweed.
Then we took it to Mum and she loved it.  Later she put it in the oven because we were going to have fish for dinner. Soon we ate it.

Fishing with Dad- Jamie

Fishing with Dad-Jamie
Once upon a time we went to the wharf in the morning. We had a wet towel. We have been good at catching fish in the sea with our fishing lines. But the fish was very big and ate all the bait off.
When we had the fish we gave it to Nan. But my Nan cut the fish up with a fork. But we had to cut the fish with a knife.

Fishing by Isabella-Paige

A long, long time ago my Mum woke up at 1 a.m. Dad woke up and we went on Saturday.
We put on our sparkly life jackets. Mum, cousin and I after breakfast packed our stuff. We put a wet towel in our bag with the fishing lines. I got my fishing line and Mum got the car. I said, “Mum can I take puppy?” My puppy was by the door.
We went to the wharf. It was cloudy. Why we went because it was hot. We caught a kahawai  and I said to Mum, “Come on, and Man, that was a big fish!” After we saw a bird’s duckling but it ate the bait.” I said, “Mum, can I have my water gun. We put ice in the bucket with the fish so it would not stink.
I think it is good that we did not waste the  fish. Nine people came for dinner. That was the best day ever, I hope we can go fishing soon with my new fishing line.

Fishing ---by Jade

Fishing -by Jade

One night Dad, Jordon, Mum and I woke up because we had to have breakfast before the shop closed, and we got there in time. So we went to the wharf, when we got there we were so excited so we jumped out to get the fishing rods. But we had to wait for Jordon to get his first then I got mine.
I was faster than a cheetah and I climbed onto the rocks. We had to put some salt water and some ice in the bucket. We got bait and I put it on my fishing rod hook and put some little heavy weight balls onto the end of the fishing line so it would go down faster. We threw it in the water and waited. I put the line in and I gave Jordon the fishing rod to hold. We caught a really big fish for tea.
We got the water gun and Jordon shot the birds that were going to eat the bait and dive for the hook. So we had to squirt them. I finally got a turn and after our fishing was done we went home. I said to my Mum, “I want all of us to sit in the lounge together and watch T.V.

Hiwi the Kiwi Goes Fishing By Arohaina

Hiwi the Kiwi  by Arohaina

I woke up, Dad said, Let’s go fishing!” I said, “First we need a life jacket and the bait. But don’t forget the ice and salt. I asked Dad, “Do we need a towel?” Dad said, “Thank you for reminding me, yes we do need a towel for the fish.”
I got the fish with a gun rod, it was bigger than me. My Mum and Dad had that when they were my age or older. I measured my big fish that I got. When I put it in the water the birds got it off me. So I kept my fishing rod in the water until I got a bigger fish. I called Mum to tell her that I had got a fish. “That’s my girl,” said Mum. “Can we have it for breakfast or lunch or dinner?

Mum said, “Go and watch T.V.” I said, “O.K.” Mum called me for dinner, we had fried bread and fish. It was super yum. I was really excited. I said that we had a good time fishing altogether.

Mikaila's Fishing Trip

Mikaila’s Fishing Trip
One morning my Mum and Uncle woke me up, they called me, “Get ready, we are going fishing!” “O.K.!” I replied. Then I got dressed, “Hurry up or we will miss out on fishing!” I asked, “Are we going to get a fish for dinner?” “Jump in the car!” shouted Mum.”We are going fishing in Uncle’s boat that goes fast,” I replied.
We are here now. “Jump out of the car.” “Do you have your fishing rod?” asked Uncle. “Yes, we have everything we need, O.K.!” I replied. “Are you sure, for the third time?” Mum asked. “Can you put some bait on my rod, please Mum? I asked. “O.K. just wait,”  Mum answered.
“Mum, Mum I caught a fish!” “That’s the girl!” replied Mum. We took the fish off the hook with a wet towel and measured it to see if it was big enough. “I think that’s dinner,” I said. “O.K. I put the fish on some salted ice so that it would stay fresh. We drove the back to the ramp and put the boat on the trailer. Uncle drove the boat home.
“When it is dinner time can I take my dinner into my room and watch T.V. in my bedroom?” I asked. That was an awesome fishing day. I was the only one that caught a fish and we didn’t waste any fish so there will be more for another day.

Fishing - by Lucas

                                             Fishing                        -Lucas
“Get the bait, we’re going fishing!” “Have you got your fishing rod, life jacket, spare hooks, knife, Mega Blaster water gun, wet towel and salted ice water?” Dad asked me. I’d better wear my Scooby Doo sun hat as it is pretty hot in the middle of the day.
I started to fish but my bait was getting circled by birds. So I squirted the cheeky birds but they seemed to enjoy being wet and flying back over me and shaking the water back onto me. So I had to squirt them again with a greater blast so I could catch a fish without the pesky birds trying to steal my bait.
Something pulled my line into the water. Just as well I still had my rod so I baited it and threw it out into the water. I felt a big tug, “Dad, help me reel this enormous fish in!” We struggled to wind the fish in, it was a huge snapper, almost as long as my leg. “Thank goodness we don’t have to measure this, aye, Dad!” “We  can’t keep this fish, we should throw it back in as it might have eggs inside, but as it was foul hooked through the eye it would not live.”
The fish is as heavy as a brick and I think would survive. When we were putting  the fish back into the sea, it turned to me and squirted me in the face and I’m sure the fish had a little smile on it’s face then he swam away. It was getting late so Dad and I  packed up everything and headed home.
