3D Hundertwasser Art

We used hundertwasser's   art forms as an  inspiration for our art works. We created 3D shape nets for geometry in mathematics, including cones, cylinders, cubes, rectangular and triangular prisms to add a 3D effect.

Golf Lesson 3

Last week we had our third Golf lesson with Paul. We played on the grass instead of the court. We had to hit a a target much further away. We had to have our legs apart with our toes pointing to the ball on the tee. Our thumbs were pointing down. The tee had to point to the target. We had to make an "L" when we swung to hit the ball. The ball was hit with a bulls eye on the club so it went was hit at the correct angle. We can't wait until the next lesson next Wednesday.

Play-Telling the Truth by Mark, Isabella-Paige, Calais and Jade

Last term our Reading Group read then acted a play "Telling the Truth" Mum was busy when her two naughty boys were playing with a balloon inside that knocked and broke her vase. The boys told a lie and blamed the cat. We were sad so we told Mum the truth later. We shared our play with the Room 0, 2 and 3 children.

We had to read with good expression making our reading sound like talking. We are also learning to read silently and follow the words when other people are reading.

Transformation in Geometry

Transformation:

At assembly we presented our three charts that we all contributed to to demonstrate the key idea of transformation. At level 1 is that the position and appearance of an object can be changed by reflecting (flipping), translating (sliding) and rotating (turning) it. At level 1 students understand that objects can be moved in space.  Together as a class we have completed our Geometry unit with revision of Stage 1.

Reflections (flip). Objects can be reflected or flipped through lines which are external (outside) to the shape, or which run through the shape. Objects which have been reflected are described as mirror images of the original object.

Rotations (turn): Objects are turned in a circular motion around a fixed point, which is called the centre of rotation. The centre of rotation can be inside or outside the shape itself. The amount the object is turned is called the angle of rotation.

Translations (slide). Objects that have been moved by translation, or sliding, look the same as the original object, but they are in a different position.

Japanese Farewell Feast for Evie and Mia

Japanese Farewell Feast
On Thursday we had  a Japanese feast. Mia and Evie are leaving Paihia School to live in Japan as their parents are teaching English  in  a Japanese  school. Ikumi and Nikki  showed us how to make sushi.

We also had shelly senbei (rice crackers) they were delicious. Ikumi made some Rice flour dumplings with bananas. I never tried it but everyone said it was yummy. We had some crispy Fujya home pies. Ikumi gave us some crispy sweet potato chips to sample, they tasted like our kumera chips. We also finished the carrot sticks, cucumber and ham, left over from the sushi.

R.D.A.

R.D.A..
It’s hard to ride a horse at riding lessons.

At R.D.A. people teach you to ride one, that means that you're actually riding a horse. But it takes time to ride a horse like you can ride on a farm. Kind people at R.D.A. can teach you how to ride a horse in horse riding lessons. The more you train, the better you can ride a horse. We learn lots of tricks on the horses. We learn how to balance and move on the horse. My brother Liam and I go every Tuesday. by Kingston

Buddy Reading with Room Zero

Buddy Reading with Room 0
Room Four students buddy read with the younger students in Room Zero every Monday and Tuesday. This is part of our tuakana / teina relationship within the school. The younger and older students enjoy reading together. It is beneficial for both classes of students. The Year 3 / 4 students have the opportunity to celebrate and share their published writing with a younger audience as well as choose then read fluently with their buddy. The younger students practise reading their words, phonic sounds and books to their older buddies and really enjoy listening to the stories read to them. It demonstrates our school hoe of manaakitanga, kaha, tu maia, and whananaungatanga.

Buddy Writing with Room Zero

Buddy  Writing with Room Zero
As well as Buddy reading we also wrote some stories with our Buddies in Room Zero as part of our teina / tuakana relationship with our younger buddies.

We put string on the pine cone, then we put white fat all over it. We got sticky and then we put peanut butter on before we put our bird seeds on it.
 Mikaira and Vinnie

Today Room Zero made bird feeders to feed the hungry birds outside. They like our bird feeder better than the seeds on the tree. It was good fun.
Lucas and Jack

We have to put the string on the bird feeder. We had to put the bird seeds on a pinecone. First we put white fat all over the cone. So we could put peanut butter before we put the seeds all over it.
By Manaaki and Liam

We liked it when we made bird feeders because it was fun. It was a beautiful day to make the bird feeders because the birds were hungry.

By Mikaila and Anika
We put string on our pinecone today so then we put fat on our pinecone. We got sticky hands from the fat and then we put some peanut butter on the pinecone. Lastly we put the bird seeds on our pinecones.
Harlem and Noah

1. We put a long string onto the hard pinecone.
2. We put the squishy white fat on the cone.
3. We rolled it with peanut butter all over.
4. Last we spread bird seeds on it
By Shivan and Josh
We put string on the pinecone. The pinecone had peanut butter put on it. The peanut butter was covered with bird seed and dried before we put it outside.
Kingston and Palin
We tied the string to the pinecone and we pushed the white fat all over it. We then rolled the pinecone in the peanut butter then in the bird seed.We put the bird feeder on the paper to dry.
Molly and Jade
My brother made a birdfeeder. He likes looking at the birds eating the seeds on it. The like the fat, peanut butter and seeds. They were hungry.
Arohaina and Takiri
Today Jeziah made a birdfeeder. First I used some ingredients. I put some string through the pine cone. We put white fat on the pinecone that was icky, yicky, sticky fat. Then we put some peanut butter on the birdseed. It was sticky and we put some bird food on it. I like working with my buddy Mere.

Golf at School

Golf by Dale and Jamie Paul is a super golf coach. He brought some great equipment for us to learn how we play golf. Really good golfers can earn lots of money. We learnt to point our feet at the tee. We learnt how to hold a club with two hands. We were “not” allowed to throw the ball at the target. The lowest score in golf wins. We are so “HAPPY” that you let us play golf with you. We are really looking forward to our next lesson next week.

 Reader is Lucas
Little Red Hen is Arohaina
Duck is Jamie
Dog is Liam
Pig is Mikaila
We acted a play for young Year 0, 1, 2 and 3 student at our school. We had to organise the actors parts, our costumes, the setting, props and masks for the characters. We learnt how to learn our parts off by heart. We learnt to practice reading with phrasing, fluency and using our voices like the characters. It also helped us practice reading silently to ourselves while the other actors were reading and saying their parts. The audience really loved our play.
