Making Popcorn

W.A.L.T. write a procedural text and comment on the text so that we could modify the procedure if necessary.
we also learnt how to take a photo using our chromebooks.
Title: “Making Popcorn”

 Equipment:

• Dried corn kernels 
• Popcorn maker 
• Electricity
•  Measuring scoop
•  Lid 
• Bowls    

Steps:

• Plug in machine
•  Put 1 scoop of kernels in the machine 
• Put lid on. 
• Place catching bowl in front of the machine 
• Turn on machine
•  Be patient while it heats before popping 
• After it pops catch the popcorn in a bowl
•  Eat the popped corn 

Conclusion:

• Next time we need have chocolate popcorn as it was a bit dry.

Today we were learning to add a comment to our procedural text so that we may adjust the procedure if were to follow it again.

Indie commented-It was a bit dry so give it some flavour with caramel, butter or chocolate.

Jade, Franky, Mere and Jamie commented that the popcorn needed some butter to make it taste better.

Liam and Mere commented that we should have made rainbow popcorn.

Mikaila and Lilli-Rose commented that the popcorn needed some chocolate melted onto it.

Kingston commented that the popcorn tasted yummy and did not need any unhealthy stuff on it.

Golf Lesson 3

Last week we had our third Golf lesson with Paul. We played on the grass instead of the court. We had to hit a a target much further away. We had to have our legs apart with our toes pointing to the ball on the tee. Our thumbs were pointing down. The tee had to point to the target. We had to make an "L" when we swung to hit the ball. The ball was hit with a bulls eye on the club so it went was hit at the correct angle. We can't wait until the next lesson next Wednesday.

 We acted a play for young Year 0, 1, 2 and 3 student at our school. We had to organise the actors parts, our costumes, the setting, props and masks for the characters. We learnt how to learn our parts off by heart. We learnt to practice reading with phrasing, fluency and using our voices like the characters. It also helped us practice reading silently to ourselves while the other actors were reading and saying their parts. The audience really loved our play.

Porotaka

We read a Journal Story last week about how to make Porotaki. We had to get flax and harakeke sticks and Mrs Neumann was kindly given some special nails by Carters in Opua. 

We had to fold the flax around our fingers and then weave it,then we hammered it onto the harakeke stick with a special nail. When we blew on the windmill it spun around and around. They also spun around in the wind. We found out that they went around even faster when the  flax dried out a fortnight later. They were an amazing toy to play with especially because we mad them. Matariki Day is such a fun day!!

Liam's Speech--"Should we have R.D.A.?"

                Should we have  RDA.?

I think we should have R.D.A. There are so many benefits such as exercise, balance  and caring. It is healthy exercise on a horse.

Firstly, R.D.A.has expert people giving the kids rides on special horses. They are kind and teach us lots of things. They teach us to care for the horses. The horses love us and we love them.

Secondly the R.D.A. horses and riders teach us lots of social skills. They reach us how to talk nicely to them. We learn manners and how to be kind to others. We love the horses and they love us. We have to be sensile near the horses.

Thirdly, riding horses is good exercise. We can climb on and of the horses and ride backwards and forwards. We balance on the horses. We can walk, trot and canter on the horses. We have to use the reins to steer the horses.

To conclude, I think we should have R.D.A. because it is so much fun and we love all the activities we learn with them.

Dictionaries for Year Fours from Rotary

Vinnie, Lucas, Zayne, Carlitos, Lilli-Rose, Kingston and Liam received dictionaries from Jim and Mr Topliss on behalf of Rotary-Bay of Islands. Unfortunately Stormy-Lee and Evie were absent on Monday 30th May.

Bike Track Opening at Paihia School

On 14th April Paihia School Opened its' Pump Track on a wet Thursday morning. We are all so excited because we want to ride our bikes and scooters both during a school day and after school and in the weekends and holidays. We are very greatiful to everyone who has made this possible for us.

R.D.A. Kingston and Liam

We have had a fabulous time at R.D.A. We go every Tuesday at morning tea time and come back to school just before lunch time. We have a cool time riding our special horses. Everyone is so kind to us at R.D.A. 

Zayne Cares for Paihia Beach

’The Beach’

On Friday the school slowly walked to the beach. I walked to the beach with my class. When we arrived we put on one glove each.

We picked up all sorts of  rubbish. I saw disgusting filters on the ground. On the sparkly sand we found tangled fishing line with rusty sharp, sharp fishing hooks .

Then we made a  sandcastle.The sandcastle was sparkly.

Afterwards we quickly walked back to school. I was buddied with Mark.I hope we do this again.
